Derwent Graphic pencils are a professional-grade line of traditional graphite pencils built around high-grade graphite and a smooth, consistent laydown. They feature a standard 8mm hexagonal body finished in classic matte black with a distinctive orange ring band near the end cap. Derwent groups the full 20-grade spectrum (9H to 9B) into three main functional categories—Hard, Medium, and Soft—available in targeted 12-pencil tins or open stock.

Key Features Across All Ranges

• Consistent Core Sizing: Core thickness expands dynamically as the grade gets softer (from 2.2mm for hard grades up to 4.0mm for softest B grades) to provide maximum structural strength for crisp leads while supporting heavy graphite coverage for softer leads.

• Lead Bonding: Leads are strip-bonded directly to the light incense-cedar wood casing along the full length of the pencil, keeping breakage low even under heavy pressure or when using hand-crank sharpeners.

• Graphite Quality: Refined, non-scratchy graphite mix ensures uniform tone without hard spots or grit throughout the entire core width.
