FineTec Pearlescent

Finetec Pearlescent Watercolors (produced in Germany by Draw.TEC and distributed globally by Royal Talens) are premium, professional-grade metallic and shimmer paints. They are widely regarded as an industry standard for calligraphy, hand lettering, fine art highlights, and special effects on paper and other porous surfaces.

Key Technical Specifications & Properties

• Pigment Base: Formulated using purified gum arabic as the binder and high-grade, ethically sourced natural mica or synthetic substrate pigments. Selected premium colors incorporate real silver or glass-based particles.

• Re-wetting & Activation: Unlike low-grade metallic paints that feel chalky or gritty, Finetec re-wets quickly with a few drops of water, dissolving into a smooth, creamy texture.

• Adhesion & Surface Compatibility: Excellent opacity and lightfastness. Adheres well to absorbent surfaces including hot/cold pressed watercolor paper, wood, clay, and plaster.

• Behavior on Light vs. Dark Paper:

  • On white/light paper: Appears as subtle, shimmering pastel or metallic tones.

  • On black/dark paper: The pearlescent effect pops with vivid color intensity and brilliant metallic contrast.
