Lukas Oil

LUKAS Studio Oil is a premium studio-grade oil paint produced in Germany by Dr. Fr. Schoenfeld GmbH & Co. (the creators of LUKAS 1862). Designed to bridge the gap between student-grade and professional artist oil paints, it offers high pigment saturation, strong lightfastness, and dependable working properties at an accessible price point.

Key Technical Characteristics

• Pigment Load & Opacity: Formulated with a high concentration of fine pigments, resulting in intense color strength and strong covering power. About 40% of the range consists of single-pigment colors, allowing for clean mixing without going muddy.

• Texture & Consistency: Features a smooth, buttery "short" body directly out of the tube. Each batch is processed through traditional three-roll mills for consistent particle dispersion.

• Beeswax Additive: Contains a small percentage (0.5%–1.5%) of refined, bleached beeswax. This gives the paint its characteristic buttery drag, keeps impasto textures stable, and renders the dried paint film less brittle over time.

• Oil Binders: Uses a refined blend of pure linseed oil and sunflower oil. Sunflower oil is used for pale and white shades to minimize yellowing during aging.

• Drying Time: Dries to the touch relatively fast for standard oil paint—typically within 2 to 4 days for thin to average applications (100–120 µm layer).
