Mungyo Oil Pastels
1. Mungyo Standard Oil Pastels (Student Grade)
Packaging: Usually sold in bright blue boxes (labeled simply as "Oil Pastels" or code MOP).
Texture & Feel: Firm-medium hardness. They feel more wax-heavy and hold a sharp point well.
Best Uses: Quick sketching, fine detail work, cross-hatching, and underpaintings. They do not clog paper teeth easily, but heavy impasto layers can feel slightly stiff.
Core Characteristics & Performance
Vibrancy & Pigmentation: Both lines use binder-rich pigments that offer strong coverage—even on dark, toned, or black paper.
Solvent Compatibility: They dissolve smoothly with odorless mineral spirits, turpentine, or baby oil. Thinning them down with a stiff brush allows you to create transparent oil-paint-like washes.
Substrates: Works well on textured pastel paper, heavy watercolor paper (300gsm+), canvas boards, wood, masonite, and unglazed ceramics.
