Key Technical Specifications
-
Pigment Load & Single Pigments: Formulated with maximum pigment loads using pure, high-grade raw pigments. Out of the ~133 colors in the range, 80 are formulated with a single pigment. Single-pigment paints prevent muddying when mixing, producing clean secondary and tertiary blends.
-
Consistency & Body: Features a firm, buttery, stiff consistency that holds crisp brushstrokes and palette knife impasto work, while thinning easily for fine glazes using mediums like Liquin or refined linseed oil.
-
Permanence Ratings: Rated according to W&N’s internal permanence scale (AA - Extremely Permanent, A - Permanent, B - Moderately Durable) as well as ASTM ratings (I and II). Over 98% of the range is rated A or AA for long-term archival stability.
-
Series Pricing Structure: Colors are categorized into Series 1 through Series 5 based on the cost of the raw pigments (e.g., Series 1 covers earths and synthetics like Ultramarine, while Series 4 and 5 cover genuine Cadmiums and Cobalts).
